Management

Preventative Planning:
I want to manage my classroom by preventing issues before they arise. It is better to be prepared and to eliminate the oportuntity for issues than to try to scramble to think of a solution as a problem occurs. I will do so by establishing and maintainting a classroom environment and by planning good, engaging lessons.

Establshing a classroom environment:

  • I will establish and uphold classroom rules that are firm yet fair, and I will implement these in the same way with every student. I must treat every student fairly and respectfully if I want them to respect my rules. I expect that students in my classroom will be respectful of me and eachother. I want to create a safe environment where all learners are welcomed and encouraged. I will promote the understanding of diversity of cultures as well as different learning styles.

  • I will create a stable environment by establishing routines.

                          My classroom routines:

          • Students will enter my classroom quietly.
          • Students will write down their homework and   begin working on a warm up as soon as they enter the class.
          • Students will raise their hands to speak.
          • Students will ask permission to leave their seats.
          • Students will turn in their work in a class basket.
          • I will always write the homework on the board.
          • I will use only one main signal for getting students' attention. I will hold up my fingers and count to three. If the students are doing group work, I may flash the lights to get the students' attention.
          • I will use popsicle sticks as a fair method for calling on students.

  • I will encourage and reward good behavior rather than lingering on negative behavior. I might say, "I'm going to give Johnny a piece of candy because he is seated and working on his warm up."
